In 2023, NASCAR installed mufflers for the Cup Series cars at the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum and the Chicago Street Course. It was met with backlash from some fans, who claimed it would affect the fan experience. Yet, not much talk came out of them after the events. Now, NASCAR will do it again with a new design in 2024.
According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, NASCAR will install mufflers on the Cup Series cars at the Busch Light Clash and Chicago Street Course in 2024. The new designs should help limit the heat generated by the previous model. This comes after several drivers complained about the car’s temperature while running the mufflers.
Overall, this isn’t a bad idea as mufflers help limit the sound in a small stadium and big city. It doesn’t change the race itself, and the competition is still fierce on the race track. The NextGen cars will still produce a loud and thrilling nature. NASCAR will still be the same sport on the race track, and it’s all that truly matters.
