Florida basketball improved its overall record to 13-6 on Wednesday night inside the O’Connell Center with a 79-70 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The home court triumph also improved Todd Golden’s team to 3-3 so far against its Southeastern Conference brethren.
As a result of the win, the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings saw the Gators rise four spots from our previous update to No. 35 overall. That nestles the Orange and Blue between the No. 34 Xavier Musketeers and No. 36 Texas Longhorns.
The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.
Golden’s gang has a margin of plus-16.75 (up 0.43 points) which means the team is expected to score 16.75 more points than the average opponent. They rank 18th in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.9) but 78th in adjusted defensive efficiency (102.2).
KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-6.09, which is 40th in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received a score of plus-1.34 which puts the Gators at No. 131.
Former Florida head coach Mike White and the Georgia Bulldogs will be in Gainesville on Saturday, Jan. 27, to face off with the Gators inside the O’Connell Center. The game is scheduled for an early noon ET start and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
