Iowa Hawkeyes hold top line in CBS Sports’ Women’s NCAA Tournament bracketology

The Iowa Hawkeyes aren’t going anywhere. That may be why CBS Sports has them on the top line in their women’s NCAA Tournament bracketology.

With an 18-2 record overall and a 7-1 record in Big Ten play, the Iowa Hawkeyes are just fine. They have the entire season in the palms of their hands with every goal fully in their control.

One of Iowa’s goals this year is to not only return to the NCAA Tournament but make another deep run just as they did last year. That starts with seeding. It goes without saying, but the higher the seed, the easier the path.

In CBS Sports’ newest women’s bracketology update, the Hawkeyes are still holding on the top line as a projected No. 1 seed.

Caitlin Clark, Iowa’s #22 who turned 22 Monday, hasn’t slowed down in her takeover of not just women’s basketball, but all of college sports. Now on pace to break Kelsey Plum’s Division I women’s career scoring record in six games (which would be Feb. 15 vs Michigan), Clark’s 31.7 points per game this season is the most since Andrea Congreaves’ 33.0 PPG for Mercer in the 1991-92 season. The Hawkeyes lost in the national championship last season but are more than capable of doing one better this time around. – Connor Groel, CBS Sports

Iowa is also the highest NET-ranked team in the Big Ten at this point and is projecting as an automatic bid which is nearly a foregone conclusion at this point.

The other No. 1 seeds include South Carolina, Stanford, and UCLA. On the No. 2 seed line is UConn, Colorado, Kansas State, and North Carolina State.
