It has been a tough road for Florida basketball this season… literally.
The Gators got their first true road win on Saturday night against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, 79-67, thanks to a well-balanced attack from the entire team. The victory improved the Orange and Blue to 12-6 overall with a 2-3 mark in Southeastern Conference competition.
As a result of the win, the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings saw the Gators rise six spots from our previous update to No. 39 overall. That nestles the Orange and Blue between the No. 40 Texas A&M Aggies and No. 42 Southern Methodist Mustangs.
The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.
Golden’s gang has a margin of plus-16.32 (up 0.94 points) which means the team is expected to score 16.32 more points than the average opponent. They rank 24th in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.1) but 76th in adjusted defensive efficiency (101.8).
KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-5.70, which is 42nd in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received a score of plus-1.24 which puts the Gators at No. 134.
The Gators return home to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs inside the O’Connell Center on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Tipoff time is slated for another late start, this time at 8:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
