REPORT: Florida football under NCAA investigation, specifics unknown

The Gators have been under investigation since last June, according to the report.

A report from the Tampa Bay Times‘ Matt Baker emerged on Friday afternoon that the University of Florida’s football program has been under investigation since last summer. No other specifics, including the nature of the investigation or potential penalties, were noted.

“We have been and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA,” Gators spokesperson Steve McClain said. “We hold ourselves to high standards of excellence and integrity on and off the field. Because we follow NCAA policies about maintaining confidentiality, we are unable to offer additional comments.”

The NCAA first sent UF President Ben Sasse a notice of inquiry — a formal document enforcement staff sends to schools alerting them of the investigation before interviewing any school employees or athletes — on June 9 regarding the issue.

The Tampa Bay Times acquired the letter after being initially denied when requested last October through their legal counsel, Thomas & LoCicero. The request was finally fulfilled on Friday.

The Gators are not the only Sunshine State team dealing with potential NCAA issues after the Florida State Seminoles were sanctioned for NIL violations last week.
