The Iowa Hawkeyes look to make it three wins in a row tonight when they travel to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Iowa (10-6, 2-3 Big Ten) has gotten off to fast starts in each of its past two games. The Hawkeyes jumped on top of Rutgers 19-5 in the game’s first seven minutes en route to an eventual 86-77 victory.
Then, last Friday, Iowa leapt in front of Nebraska 17-2 in the game’s first six minutes. The Hawkeyes beat the Huskers comfortably, 94-76.
Freshman phenom Owen Freeman had another terrific night, scoring a career and game-high 22 points. The 6-foot-10, 230 pound forward from Moline, Ill., also grabbed 10 rebounds to collect his third career double-double.
Junior forward Payton Sandfort and sophomore guard Josh Dix each knocked down five 3-pointers to score 19 and 16 points, respectively.
Graduate forward Ben Krikke and redshirt senior forward Patrick McCaffery both chipped in with 12 points, while senior guard Tony Perkins added 11 points and a career-high 15 assists.
Minnesota (12-4, 3-2 Big Ten) enters tonight after losing at Indiana, 74-62, last Friday. Before that, the Gophers had beaten Nebraska, Michigan and Maryland in succession in league play.
