It’s been an ugly season for the San Antonio Spurs this year, and that doesn’t even feel like it tells the whole story. They’ve yet to win 10 games, and despite the presence of Victor Wembanyama, their on-court success has been virtually non-existent. They’ve shown some flashes in games against teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers as of late, but they haven’t been able to get a win.
That is, until Friday night. On Friday, the Spurs took down the Charlotte Hornets by a ridiculous score of 135-99, marking their second win in a row – the first time they’ve won two games in a row since their two wins over the Phoenix Suns on October 31 and November 2.
After the game, head coach Gregg Popovich praised his team for their growth over the course of the year, noting that they’re developing more and more on-court chemistry.
“They look like they’re beginning to understand how to play with each other,” Popovich said via ESPN.
Wembanyama led the way for the Spurs, as he put up 26 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, and two blocks while shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line.
Meanwhile, veteran forward Doug McDermott chipped in with a solid performance off the pine, dropping 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from distance.
Jeremy Sochan also played well. He ended the game with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor and 1-of-2 from distance.
The Spurs were able to spoil the return of LaMelo Ball, who dropped 28 points in his first game back from an extended injury absence.
