We have our second confirmed head coach interview for the Tennessee Titans and it will be Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach, Antonio Pierce.
The news comes NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo, who notes that Pierce will be brought in for the interview this weekend. He adds that Pierce is still “firmly in the mix” for the Raiders’ vacancy.
Pierce was one of nine candidates the Titans had requested to interview, per our head coach interview tracker. He is just the second to have a confirmed interview, though, along with Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan, who is scheduled to talk to Tennessee on Friday.
Pierce took over as the Raiders’ interim head coach after Josh McDaniels was fired following a 3-5 start. Pierce did a great job, with Las Vegas posting a 5-4 record and staying in playoff contention through Week 17.
Prior to taking over as interim head coach, Pierce was the Raiders’ linebackers coach, a role he took on in 2022.
While I like Pierce as a coach and was very impressed with the job he did in Vegas, this doesn’t feel like a good fit for the Titans because it’s basically a lateral move.
Like Mike Vrabel, Pierce is a defensive-minded coach who played linebacker during his NFL career. The Titans would be better suited bringing in an offensive mind this time around.
