Key takeaways from No. 3 Iowa women’s basketball’s win over Michigan State

Caitlin Clark is generational, sensational, otherworldly. What other takeaways are there from No. 3 Iowa’s 76-73 win over Michigan State?

It’s a day later and the euphoria from inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena might have dissipated on site, but the hype and legend surrounding senior Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark only grows larger.

Clark drilled a buzzer-beating, game-winning, logo 3-pointer to down Michigan State inside Carver, 76-73. Shades of last year’s regular season finale versus No. 2 Indiana in Iowa City for Clark.

It’s the latest in a long line of heroics for the West Des Moines sensation.

“We found a way to win. That is what good teams do. Caitlin has ice in her veins, everybody knows it. We talked about how our 3-point defense had to be really good against Michigan State. Our goal was to hold them to eight or under, and we held them to seven. I think that was a very important part for us in this win,” Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said afterwards.

Clark’s flair for the dramatic certainly takes top billing—and we’ll spend more time on that, too—but what about all the other takeaways from this dramatic win?
