Jets, Dalvin Cook parting ways just before end of season

The Jets are parting ways with Dalvin Cook, allowing him to sign with a playoff team if he wishes.

The Jets are moving on from running back Dalvin Cook. The team and Cook are agreed to mutually part ways, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Cook signing will go down as a major miss for general manager Joe Douglas. The Jets have Cook $5.8 million guaranteed this season, only to carry the football 67 times for 214 yards and no touchdowns. Cook also caught 15 passes for 78 yards.

Per Adam Schefter, Cook is forfeiting the remaining guaranteed money for this season. By letting Cook go now, Cook has a chance to sign with a playoff team and have a chance at a Super Bowl.

For the Jets, it’s a chance to get more work for Israel Abanikanda this week in practice and during Sunday’s game against the Patriots. The Jets also have Xazavian Valladay and Jacques Patrick on the practice squad.
