In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cincinnati Bengals were fighting for playoff survival.
At that point in time, the Bengals were down 19-17 while elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Steelers were up by 10 points over the Seattle Seahawks. If those results held, the Bengals would be eliminated before Week 18.
Cincinnati stuck around late with the Chiefs, but ultimately lost, 25-17.
So ends the postseason hopes with an expected result, one predicted really since Joe Burrow’s season-ending injury. Only a three-game tear with Jake Browning under center made Week 17 interesting for a team decimated by injuries.
As a result, the Bengals will finish their season next week against a Browns team that could be resting starters before their trip to the playoffs.
