The Auburn Tigers close out the 2023 calendar year with a bang.
Every member of the roster saw action, and the Tigers dominated nearly every category in their 101-66 win over Chattanooga on Saturday night at Neville Arena in Auburn.
Auburn was miles ahead of the Mocs all game long, and it showed in the box score. There were several major discrepancies, including field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, and bench points. Auburn connected on 56% of its shots while Chattanooga made just 36%. The Tigers also outrebounded the Mocs by 23, 46-23, including a whopping 31-16 defensive rebound margin.
Auburn also emptied the bench, which allowed them to boat race Chattanooga in that category as well. Auburn’s bench was responsible for 43 of Auburn’s 101 points on Saturday. [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] led the charge with 13 points, followed by [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag], who scored seven each.
The Tigers dominated from the beginning, as they raced out to a 12-0 lead through the first five minutes of the game. Chattanooga cut Auburn’s lead to six points at the 13:45 mark in the first half on a three-point bucket by Randy Baker to make the score 14-8. However, that would be the closest that the Mocs would get to a lead.
Cardwell succeeded on a layup with 13:07 remaining in the first half to push Auburn to a 19-8 lead, which would allow Auburn to play with at least a 10-point cushion for the remainder of the contest. The Tigers led by as many as 39 points in the win.
[autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] was Auburn’s leading scorer with 21 points. He was followed by [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag]’s 18 point effort. Out of Auburn’s 15 participants, 13 of those scored at least one point.
Auburn’s final nonconference game of the season will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 2, when the Tigers host Penn for an 8 p.m. tipoff at Neville Arena.
