NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have lost five of their past six games and it seems that the Nets are playing like a completely different team right now. At the start of this season, Brooklyn was seemingly in every game. Recently, that hasn’t been the case.
“One of the big things is, we’re letting teams go on runs a little bit,” Nets forward Cam Johnson said after Wednesday’s 121-102 loss to the New York Knicks in the first matchup of the Battle of the Boroughs. Johnson put up 20 points and four rebounds in a contest where he was one of few Nets to have a solid game in an otherwise embarrassing loss.
“Not responding appropriately, or in a way that’s productive,” Johnson explained. “And, every game besides Denver, we’re kind of right there for stretches of time. (In the) second, third, maybe even fourth quarters.”
Over their last six games, excluding their 124-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors on , the Nets were competitive until the third quarter where everything falls apart for some reason. Against the Knicks, that happened for Brooklyn in the beginning of the third quarter where New York went on a 11-0 run to open the period after going into halftime leading 60-51.
After that, the Nets were able to lower the deficit to just nine points before everything fell apart and this contest became a blowout. “So, some games are just getting away from us to a point where we have to learn how to trust one another, and be able to weather storms, and then quickly spin them around into our direction,” Johnson explained.
