USC women’s basketball continues to play like a juggernaut, dismantles Fullerton by 49

USC is 9-0.

The USC Trojans women’s basketball team remained unbeaten on Monday night in the Galen Center. The Women of Troy led Cal State Fullerton by 30 points at halftime and rolled to a 93-44 win over the Titans. USC is now 9-0 heading into a Thursday afternoon road game against Long Beach State.

JuJu Watkins played with a stomach bug and scored “only” 23 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Not bad for playing while sick. Watkins is the second-leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball, trailing only Caitlin Clark of Iowa.

All five USC starters scored. Nine USC players played at least 13 minutes. Coach Lindsay Gottlieb was able to give extended playing time to her bench on a night when regular starters Rayah Marshall and Kaitlyn Davis did not play. It will be interesting to see if Marshall and Davis play against Long Beach State on Thursday.

USC shot 50 percent from the field (33 of 66) compared to just 30.5 percent for Fullerton. USC made 16 3-pointers compared to only four triples for the visiting Titans. USC grabbed a 50-20 halftime lead and was never remotely threatened.
