The latest ESPN NFL Draft rankings don’t have a QB at No. 1 in 2024

Could it be a wide receiver with a Hall of Fame pedigree?

This is not a shocking thing, but noteworthy nonetheless: Sometimes, the best overall prospect in the NFL Draft isn’t one of the top quarterbacks.

It can be the can’t-miss offensive lineman who could set you up for QB protection for a decade. It could be the defensive end that ends up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for terrorizing quarterbacks.

In the case of the 2024 NFL Draft: Is it the wide receiver whose dad was a Hall of Famer at the position the top name?

In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. went third overall to the New York Giants. And in the latest top 50 prospects list from ESPN’s Jordan Reid, Harrison Jr. was No. 1. Here’s his reasoning:

Harrison has rare body control, strong hands and great flexibility, putting him in line with the top receiver prospects we’ve seen this century. Despite inconsistent QB play at Ohio State in 2023, he still managed to be arguably the most dangerous playmaker in the country, compiling 67 catches for 1,211 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s able to win in a variety of ways, showing the route-running skills of a smaller receiver. And Harrison is an instant-impact type of prospect with the potential to be a top-10 receiver in the NFL as early as his rookie season.
