Third baseman Nick Senzel and right-handed relief pitcher Dylan Floro signed one-year contracts with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
Washington designated infielder Jeter Downs for assignment to make room on the Nationals’ 40-man roster.
Senzel played for the Vols from 2014-16 and was an All-America standout and an All-Southeastern Conference performer. He was selected No. 2 overall by Cincinnati in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.
Senzel played for the Reds from 2019-23. He appeared in 377 games, recording a .239 batting average, 33 home runs, 125 RBIs, 104 walks and 32 stolen bases.
The Nationals will open play for the 2024 season on March 28 at Cincinnati. Washington’s home-opener is slated for April 1, 2024 versus Pittsburgh.
