Last week saw the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team handle their business in two big-time showdowns, each on the road. They took down the Iowa State Cyclones in the Cy-Hawk game by a score of 67-58. Following that, the Hawkeyes went north to Madison, Wisconsin, and knocked off the Wisconsin Badgers 87-65 in front of a packed house.
The two wins have the Hawkeyes holding steady in the newest Associated Press Top 25. Iowa comes in at No. 4 in the country with their 10-1 record. While ranked fourth, they are not receiving any votes for No. 1 as South Carolina has taken all of those.
Ahead of Iowa is UCLA at No. 2 and North Carolina State at No. 3. All three teams ahead of the Hawkeyes are undefeated. Behind Iowa is Texas at No. 5 and USC at No. 6, each also undefeated. Other Big Ten schools appearing in the poll include Ohio State at No. 12 and Indiana at No. 15.
The Hawkeyes have a bit of a break until their next game on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Cleveland State in Des Moines, Iowa for the Hy-Vee Hawkeye Showcase. Following that, Iowa hosts Loyola-Chicago on Thursday, Dec. 16 as their final test before getting into the Big Ten slate.
