Even after win, Bill Belichick not revealing Patriots’ future QB plans

Is Bailey Zappe the new starting QB for the Patriots moving forward? Coach Bill Belichick isn’t ready to give an answer.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is not revealing his future plans at quarterback, following his team’s 21-18 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

Bailey Zappe took over the show at the position for New England. He went 19-of-28 on the evening, throwing for 240 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. His 52.3 quarterback rating was his best since October 16, 2022 against the Cleveland Browns.

It was by far a better showing than he had last Sunday, when he was shut out and held to 141 passing yards against the Los Angeles Chargers. Yet, even after a win, that still hasn’t changed Belichick’s secretive approach to the quarterback situation.

He continued to keep things close to the chest when speaking with media members on Friday.

“I’m not going to get into the future plans right now,” said Belichick, via WEEI’s Mike Kadlick. “Certainly, Bailey’s done a good job… in two opportunities he’s had to execute the offense.”

There has been inconsistent play all season at the quarterback position.

However, Zappe’s performance on Thursday night added the sort stability and energy the team hasn’t seen in weeks. If anything, Zappe helped make his case to be the starter for the rest of the season.
