Penn State men’s basketball hits the road for a Big Ten opener on Wednesday night. Penn State will be south of the Mason-Dixon Line to face the Maryland Terrapins with both teams coming into the Big Ten contest with identical 4-4 records. This will be Penn State’s Big Ten opener but Maryland has already dropped its conference opener with a road loss at Indiana earlier in the week.
Penn State will be led by the combo of Kanye Clary and Ace Baldwin Jr. who are leading the team this season with 15.1 and 14.4 points per game, respectively. Penn State has also been getting a solid contribution from Qudus Wahab with an average of 11.0 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game.
The Nittany Lions have a tall task in defending Maryland’s Julian Reese, who is also close to averaging a double-double each game with 14.9 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Penn State and Maryland split their regular season series last season with each team winning on its home court. Penn State has not won a Big Ten opener on its schedule since the 2017-18 season. Maryland leads the all-time series with the Nittany Lions by a 16-15 margin. Penn State has won just two of its games on Maryland’s home court.
