Report: Texas A&M Football has hired Derek Miller as the program’s new General Manager

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has hired former Duke GM/Director of Player Personnel Derek Miller as the program’s new General Manager.

Echoing nearly every Aggie media member, Texas A&M and new head coach Mike Elko just made one the more critical hires amid Elko’s first month on the job, as former Duke Director of Player Personnel Derek Miller has been hired as the program’s new General Manager as of Tuesday, Dec. 5.

This relationship goes back to Mike Elko’s four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Bowling Green, where Derek Miller first served as the team’s student manager during the 2012 season. Since then, Miller has worked in various player personnel positions with LSU and South Carolina, moving up in his return to Bowling Green as the program’s General Manager/Director of Player Personnel.

For the past three seasons, Miller transitioned to East Carolina in the same position before reuniting with Elko and Duke in 2022. Miler earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a minor in psychology from Bowling Green

Taking over the same role he held during his time in Durham (NC), Miller will be taking over a role that has been vacant since last June, as former head coach Jimbo Fisher failed to understand the vital importance of the position in today’s football landscape, as the transfer portal and NIL continue to make a significant impact on the Aggies roster year after year.

Miller will take over all the recruiting coordination, scouting, and roster management duties, freeing up the rest of the Aggies staff to focus on the job at hand and making Mike Elko’s life slightly easier ahead of the 2024 season.
