The North Carolina women’s basketball program hosted South Carolina for a special ACC/SEC challenge, and it was jumping from the start.
Despite being heavy underdogs against the No.1 school in the nation, UNC got out to a hot start, displaying juggernaut defense and keeping South Carolina off the boards.
The fast start came with it bruises as both teams got chippy with one another leading to double technicals. The physical game echoed with trash talk spilling over from the court to social media as fans couldn’t get enough of the back and forth.
What went right in the first half, didn’t translate to the second with South Carolina snagging the lead halfway through the third. To make matters worse for UNC, in the same period, Deja Kelly had a scary moment after hitting her head on the court.
The fourth quarter saw the return of Kelly and the Tar Heels fight, as the game continued to be neck to neck. However, South Carolina started to pour it on late, escaping from the Tar Heel upset.
Despite the loss, UNC proved they could compete with the best, going toe-to-toe with South Carolina and holding them to a season-low.
