A game-worn Victor Wembanyama jersey sold for a record-breaking $762,000 at auction

The jersey was expected to sell for somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000.

A jersey worn by San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama during his first NBA game was sold at auction for $762,000.

The auction was held by Sotheby’s and the initial expectation was that the jersey would sell for somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000. The actual sold price after bidding closed was considerably higher than anticipated.

Earlier this month, Sotheby’s became the official game-worn source of NBA gear.

This is reportedly the most paid for any NBA rookie debut jersey and one of the highest amounts paid for a jersey in the modern era.

For comparison, the debut jersey worn by Zion Williamson was sold for $80,400 in 2020.
