Drake Maye moves up in CBS Spots quarterback rankings

UNC football quarterback Drake Maye has moved up in the latest CBS Sports quarterback rankings.

North Carolina Tar Heels’ quarterback Drake Maye came up big for the team last week in the two overtime win over Duke, leading several important drives near the end.

Maye has been consistent throughout the year, projected to be one of the top picks in the 2024 NFL draft. And following his game against Duke, he moved up in Tom Fornelli’s weekly quarterback rankings for CBS Sports.

Maye is up one spot from No. 9 to No. 8 in the rankings, just two weeks after being left out. Here is what Fornelli had to say about Maye and his play lately:

It dawned on me this weekend that Maye was born to be a Los Angeles Charger. The Carolina Blue probably helps with this, but he seems destined to fill the shoes of Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert in the “talented QB on a bad team with a bad coach who is too good to keep his team from being blown out but just doesn’t have enough help around him to get over the hump and win this game in the fourth quarter.” I mean, that’s basically what he’s doing every week with the Tar Heels already.

The quarterback has another chance to improve his ranking in a big game on Saturday as the Tar Heels head to South Carolina to face off against Clemson.

A win moves the Tar Heels to 9-2 and gives them a chance for a 10-win season.
