The Florida Gators won in impressive fashion Tuesday night, rolling over the Florida A&M Rattlers, 89-68, at Exactech Arena. The Orange and Blue now hold a 2-1 record, with the loss being handed by the No. 25 Virginia Cavaliers on Nov. 10.
Now that the Gators have provided a minimal sample size, the first edition of the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings has been released and Florida starts the season among the middle of the pack.
The KenPom rankings take a team’s offensive efficiency and subtracts the defensive efficiency to determine how many points a team would outscore the “average” Division I program. The math then creates a team’s adjusted efficiency margin.
The Gators are ranked at No. 42 with a plus-15.14 adjusted efficiency margin. The high scores against Florida A&M and Loyola Maryland gave a boost to Florida’s offensive efficiency rating, which is starting at 111.8 (47th among other offenses).
Meanwhile, the defense, which has created 23 turnovers and racked up 15 total blocks, has the 60th-ranked defensive efficiency rating.
The KenPom website keeps track of the most efficient basketball teams and the Gators can improve their ratings again as they prepare to host the Florida State Seminoles on Friday night.
Florida and FSU will tip off at 7 p.m. ET from Exactech Arena and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
