Nick Nurse provides encouraging update on Kelly Oubre Jr. amid recovery

Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse provided a bit of an encouraging update on Kelly Oubre Jr. amid his recovery.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are working through the absence of Kelly Oubre Jr. after the versatile forward was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night. He sustained a rib fracture and injuries to his hip and his right leg.

The Sixers have wing options due to their depth. Nic Batum, acquired in the James Harden trade, was starting in place of Oubre and he has given the Sixers good production. Batum is away from the team due to personal reasons, so Robert Covington will get a look as the starter.

Before an in-season tournament matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, coach Nick Nurse provided an injury update on Oubre.

“I went over to his place (Monday),” Nurse said. “I saw him. He’s doing pretty good. He’s in good spirits. He did come to the practice facility  (Tuesday) and rode the exercise bike for a little bit so he’s doing OK.”

Oubre will be evaluated soon. That will give the Sixers a better timeline for Oubre’s return to the floor.
