The Colorado Buffaloes men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off their seasons on Monday with victories. The men’s team defeated Towson in Boulder, but it was the women’s team that made headlines with a stunning double-digit upset over No. 1 LSU, which won the national title just months ago.
The Buffs’ victory over LSU brought plenty of reactions and further confirmed that Colorado’s run to the Sweet 16 last season was no fluke.
And, CU football head coach Deion Sanders himself was excited about the victory. He made sure to congratulate the team during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
“We cannot underestimate what they just did,” Sanders said.
Coach Prime’s daughter, Shelomi Sanders, is also on the team as a redshirt freshman, but she isn’t expected to play many minutes this season.
Prior to the game on Monday, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey said that Colorado was more prepared, and it certainly showed in Las Vegas.
After beating Le Moyne at the CU Events Center on Wednesday, next up for the Buffs is another home game against Oklahoma State on Sunday.
