The Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team is kicking off its 2023-24 season with a difficult Monday evening game against LSU.
Ahead of this big matchup, there is plenty to examine, and the No. 20 Buffs are entering the season with high expectations once again. The No. 1 Tigers, meanwhile, are fresh off a national championship they won just months ago. Head coach Kim Mulkey inked a rich new contract extension as well.
The game will be at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of the Hall of Fame Series.
Colorado head coach JR Payne feels good about where her team is at.
“I think our veterans are used to playing in big games and take every game very seriously,” Payne said (h/t CUBuffs.com). “They take their preparation very seriously and have played in some big arenas on the big stage now. It’s great to not have to wait until March to do that. I really am excited to see who we truly are. How do we mesh? How do we deal with adversity? How do we fix things quickly and have a short memory and move on? It’s going to be a great barometer for where we are and where we want to go.”
And, Mulkey feels that LSU is less poised than Colorado, per Brian Howell of BuffZone.
Story coming up, but LSU WBB head coach Kim Mulkey said of the #cubuffs: "Colorado is more poised than us right now. Colorado is playing LSU at the right time." The No. 20 Buffs and defending champion, No. 1 Tigers meet Monday in Las Vegas to open the season.

The Buffs lost in the Sweet 16 last season and Payne likes where this group is headed. Facing the defending national champions in a season opener will be a good measuring stick.
Tipoff between the Buffs and Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m. MT and the game will be televised nationally on TNT.
