The Florida Gators welcomed the Arkansas Razorbacks to The Swamp Saturday afternoon but came up short in a 39-36 overtime loss.
The game had a shootout feel, with both teams trading haymakers and fighting for control of the first half. Arkansas seemed to have the upper hand early after a well-executed opening drive and stripping Florida of the football to take it back for six points.
Florida did manage to swing the pendulum back in its favor and brought the game back to 14 points apiece after two connections from quarterback Graham Mertz to Eugene Wilson III.
Both teams would go on to score a field goal before the end of the first half and it was a whole new ball game, but the Gators just couldn’t keep up with the speedy Razorback offense.
The Gators’ offense fell apart in the third quarter and failed to run away with the game, leaving Arkansas an open opportunity to win it in overtime. There are some good takeaways from the loss, but there are also plenty of bad.
