‘A tremendous honor’: Drake Stoops honored to be a captain of the final Bedlam

With it being the final Bedlam, the Sooners are rolling out captains from the state of Oklahoma.

For one final time, “Bob’s boy” as the voice of the Oklahoma Sooners, Toby Rowland calls him, will play against the [autotag]Oklahoma State Cowboys[/autotag]. But [autotag]Drake Stoops[/autotag] is much more than that. He’s carved his own legacy at Oklahoma, becoming one of the most reliable pass-catchers for quarterback [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag].

Oddly enough, in Stoops’ six-year career, he’s actually only faced the Cowboys twice. Stoops racked up eight catches, 109 yards, and a touchdown in those games combined. Last year was his best performance, with six catches for 89 yards and a score.

For this in-state showdown, all of Oklahoma’s captains come from the Sooner State.

He spoke with the media after practice this week about that honor.

“That’s awesome,” Stoops said. “I’m definitely honored to represent the team and be captain for this game. Being my last Bedlam, Oklahoma’s last Bedlam, it’s definitely a tremendous honor. Being from Oklahoma means a lot to me, but even being a captain in general for any game is a tremendous honor.”

The last time the Sooners went to Stillwater, the Cowboys upset a top 10 Sooners team, stopping the Sooners and [autotag]Caleb Williams[/autotag] on the final drive of the game. Last year, the Sooners jumped on the Cowboys early, going up 28-0 in the first quarter and cruised to victory.

But now we’ve come to the final Bedlam. Bragging rights are on the line in this one.

Oklahoma can make a statement they still own this rivalry with a win. However, if Oklahoma State earns a vicotry, that will be two of the last three against the Sooners. I’m sure they also would love nothing more than to storm the field and mock the Sooners with “SEC” chants as they say their final farewells.
