PHILADELPHIA — With the Philadelphia 76ers in the middle of a battle with the Portland Trail Blazers in the home opener on Sunday, Tyrese Maxey drove to the basket and took a hard fall.
When he got up, he began shaking and grabbing at his right hand as it appeared he had suffered an injury.
Maxey shook it off and delivered a solid performance of 26 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a 126-98 win over the Blazers at home. He shot 4-for-8 from deep, and he helped the Sixers close out a win in the home opener.
“He got a little bit of a — what do you call that? Hit your funny bone?” said coach Nick Nurse afterward. “Tingling that never really went away so I guess we’ll have to check on that, but he landed on it and it never went away for the whole game.”
After the Sixers secured the victory, Maxey provided an update of his hand.
“When I fell on the ground, my funny bone,” Maxey stated. “The whole side of my hand is a little numb, but I think I’ll be OK. Life goes on.”
The Sixers have three days off before they play host to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, so that should give the young guard out of Kentucky enough time to recover.
