Caleb Williams should not sit out the rest of the season — sorry, Emmanuel Acho

Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans lost for the second straight week, falling to the Utah Utes 34-32 last Saturday. With the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and projected No. 1 NFL draft pick failing to impress, Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho gave him an unusual piece of “business” advice, advising Williams to sit out the rest of the season.

This idea from Emmanuel Acho displeased Greg McElroy and many other pundits this past week. McElroy chatted about it on “Always College Football” on Thursday.

“Here’s what I hate – I really hate it, I really, really hate it. I hate when people who played the sport – understand what it’s like to be on a team, understand what it’s like to sacrifice for the greater good – tweet things out suggesting that star players shouldn’t play anymore. That’s the only reason? It’s not because the game is fun or because you owe it to your team to give them the best chance to be successful? Or because you’re representing a school, representing something bigger than yourself?”, McElroy said.

“By the way, I don’t think Caleb Williams is going to do any of this. He’s going to play. Why? Because he owes it to his team, he owes it to the USC Trojans to give them a chance,” McElroy continued. “I just don’t understand it. For the life of me, I will never understand it and I hate it. I hate it that it’s all about the individual now. College is not some medium to get you tothe NFL. College is a platform.”

“To suggest to a player that he should shut it down is absurd,” McElroy stated. “The fact that it came from a guy that actually played? Shame on you. It’s honestly flat-out embarrassing.”

The Trojans will next face the Cal Golden Bears (3-4, 1-3) on Saturday.

Oklahoma fans were right about Lincoln Riley, at least for this specific season.

USC assistants need to be coaching for their jobs.

Lincoln Riley did not assemble an elite 2023 roster, which surprised us and a lot of other observers.

Is USC ready to win in 2024 with Miller Moss or Malachi Nelson at quarterback? Lincoln Riley has to be honest about how he answers that question.

Brent Venables is coaching Oklahoma far better this year than Lincoln Riley is coaching USC. It’s up to Riley to change that reality.
