Former Alabama WR Derek Kief promoted to interim WRs coach at Arkansas

Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was recently promoted to interim wide receiver’s coach at Arkansas. He played for the Crimson Tide from 2014-2018.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has a former player of his that was recently promoted in the coaching world. Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was recently promoted from being an offensive assistant to becoming the interim wide receivers coach at Arkansas.

Saban had the following to say in regards to Arkansas’ decision to name Kief as the interim wide receivers coach, “He’s a very driven guy, so this is no surprise to me.”

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman also commented on promoting Kief from offensive assistant to being named the interim wide receivers coach.

“He’s a mature guy, has a good relationship with the kids, knows the offense, went through the offense, knows the terminology. … He was an easy choice regarding that,” Pittman said.

Kief played under Saban at Alabama from 2014-2018. He played in 51 games throughout his five-year career with the Crimson Tide. He hauled in 11 receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, he will have the opportunity to coach a talented receiving core in Fayetteville that is headlined by 6-foot-6 pass-catcher Andrew Armstrong. It will be interesting to see how the wide receivers continue to develop down the stretch under the direction of Kief.
