Zach Arnett not ready to reveal Will Rodgers’ status for Auburn game

Could Mississippi State be without its star quarterback for the second straight week?

The Auburn Tigers welcome Mississippi State to the Plains on Saturday with the possibility of not scheming against its top offensive threat.

Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers suffered a shoulder injury in the Bulldogs’ 41-28 win over Western Michigan on Oct. 7, which forced him to miss last week’s game against Arkansas. Could he return for Saturday’s game at Auburn? Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett is not ready to reveal that information.

“Will’s progressing just like we expect. If he’s able to go, he’ll go. If not, he’s not,” Arnett said this week. “And that goes for any other guy on the team. We have several days to evaluate, see his progress in practice, and make a determination then.”

Mississippi State called upon Vanderbilt transfer Mike Wright to lead them to victory over Arkansas last Saturday, where he passed for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Rogers, who was recruited to run Mike Leach’s air raid system, has passed for 1,275 yards and 10 touchdowns through five games of the 2023 season.
