The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program opens up the season in under two weeks with one goal. Get back to the Final Four and avoid a disaster like they saw last year.
And for them to get back on track, it will rest on the shoulders of fifth-year senior Armando Bacot.
During an appearance on Jon Rothstein’s “College Hoops Today” podcast Monday, head coach Hubert Davis talked about Bacot who was named a Preseason All-American by the Associated Press. During the conversation, Davis made it clear that Bacot has to be ‘dominant’ in order for the Tar Heels to find success this season.
“For us to be the team that we all hope that we can possibly be, Armando has to be dominant in those areas,” Davis said via Tar Heel Tribune. “And that is his job. And that is not just in the games, but also in practice as well. That’s what we need from him.”
Bacot has been fantastic the past few seasons at North Carolina, including that run to the Final Four back in 2021-222. During that season, he averaged 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. A year ago, Bacot averaged 15.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels.
We know what Bacot is capable of being when he is a dominant player.
However, injuries did slow him down last season. We never really saw that dominant player and haven’t since that Final Four run. Let’s hope we can get that ‘dominant’ Bacot and UNC can get back to the tournament.
