The one thing the Minnesota Vikings couldn’t afford to do was turn the ball over against the San Francisco 49ers. Well, they did so on just the third play of the game.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw a slant route to wide receiver Jordan Addison, but it was heavily contested and Charvarius Ward ripped it out of his hands to force the 14th Vikings turnover this season.
Turnovers have been brutal for the Vikings this season and have been the single biggest factor to them starting 2-4.
The difference on Monday night was the defense. Instead of allowing points on a short field, Camryn Bynum put his helmet on the football and forced a Christian McCaffrey fumble. The Vikings drove down 89 yards and Cousins found Addison for a touchdown.
The Vikings going up 7-0 is the start they wanted, but in a way they didn’t expect. Hopefully they can find a way keep the lead throughout the game on Monday night.
