Shane McMahon’s eldest son, Declan McMahon, is busy with academic and football as a student-athlete at Indiana University. But as you can see by the image above that he shared on social media, the family business is never too far from his mind.
Would he consider a career in WWE once he’s done with school? That was a question asked of Declan McMahon during a recent interview with WU Online, and he gave a pretty thoughtful response (h/t Cageside Seats for the transcription).
When WrestleMania 32 came to AT&T Stadium, and running out there with my dad, that was just the coolest experience of my life. Just to see 100,000 [people] and a sold-out crowd cheering for something that’s way bigger than yourself, and it really gets to put it in perspective of what it means to not only be a champion, but to be a superstar.
So, I’m never ruling it out. I would love to get in the ring maybe a couple times, but obviously you have to see if the opportunity presents itself. It’s all about the story, but we’ll see. I think a lot of fans would get behind it if we ended up doing it, and I think I’d be be pretty good at it. But you never know. Never ruling an option out. But as for now, focusing on football and school, and we’ll play that by ear.
He does mention elsewhere in the interview that his preference would be to play in the NFL someday, though the guess here is that most football players at top-tier college football conferences would say that.
Declan McMahon has yet to appear in a game for the Hoosiers, but he’s only a freshman, so he’s got plenty of time. If he does decide to more seriously consider a WWE career once he’s done with school, he certainly won’t have to look far to get advice from one of the more memorable part-time wrestlers of the last few decades — and his grandfather certainly knows something about pro wrestling too.
