For the 10th time since the 2000 season, the Oklahoma Sooners have started the season 6-0. Only three times did they go undefeated for the whole regular season. On two occasions, they lost the seventh game of the season.
It’s easy after a big win over your biggest rival to start to relax.
During the offseason, the narrative was that Oklahoma was falling off. Now all they are hearing is how good they are. Many are wondering if they can go to the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag].
Danny Stutsman talked about why he feels a letdown won’t happen with this team.
“With Coach Venables, we won’t have that problem at all,” Stutsman said. “He’s a real down-to-earth guy. I think right now we’re kind of taking away from the bad of the game, fixing and improving upon it so we’re ready for UCF.”
It does feel like there’s a different mentality with this year’s team than in years past. The message is to live in the moment, live in the now, and be 1-0 each week.
But we have to remember these are college kids. There will be a game where they don’t have their fastball. That will be the game that decides how the regular season goes.
Great teams can overcome performances like that and stay unbeaten. Good teams might lose that game but know how to bounce back from it. When that game comes, we’ll find out which team the Oklahoma Sooners are.
