2023-24 NBA GM Survey: Thunder voted as best young core, most improved team this season

The Thunder finished No. 1 in a pair of important questions in this year’s NBA GM survey.

In this year’s 2023-24 NBA GM Survey, the Oklahoma City Thunder were featured frequently in the 50-question overview of the league.

Prior to the start of each season, the NBA surveys general managers of its 30 teams throughout the league to see how several opinionated topics are voted upon. The survey’s 22nd edition had plenty of Thunder praise in it.

Before diving into the results, it’s important to note that the percentages reflect the results of the GMs who answered that specific question — not what all 30 thought.

The most notable result included the Thunder being heavily voted as the most promising young core in the league. 73% of voters went with OKC as their choice. No. 2 Cleveland Cavaliers had 10% of votes and No. 3 Orlando Magic had 7%.

The Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers also received votes.

The Thunder also finished No. 1 on teams who will be most improved this season. OKC had 30% of the votes and No. 2 Rockets had 23%. The Dallas Mavericks, Pistons and Magic each garnered 10% of the votes for third place.

Both questions go hand in hand with the Thunder. After finishing a win shy of the playoffs last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s rise to superstardom combined with the natural improvement of players like Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Josh Giddey has the air buzzing in OKC with excitement.
