With fewer than 30 seconds remaining in the biggest game of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners had the ball at the 3-yard line. The Sooners had marched down the field after falling behind for only the second time all game.
They were missing two of their starting offensive linemen and leading receiver, Andrel Anthony. [autotag]Nic Anderson[/autotag] had come into the game to replace Anthony, who was lost for the season at the end of the third quarter.
He came in motion from right to left before finding a sweet spot in the back left corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
Anderson walked reporters through that play at the end of the game.
“Me and (Austin) Stogner actually ran into each other,” Anderson said. “Then I was the one who came open, and then I saw the ball, and that’s the last thing I remember.”
Anderson is someone the coaching staff has been very high on but dealt with injuries last season. This year he’s third on the team in yards but first on the team in touchdowns. That three-yard game-winner was his only catch of the day but a big one at that.
As for how it feels to be added to the history of this rivalry, Anderson said he’s blessed.
“I couldn’t have done it without God, my family, my friends and my teammates around me.”
With the loss of Anthony, Anderson’s role is only going to grow in the offense. Now, he’ll try to build off his historic moment.
