UNC basketball commit named a standout at USA Basketball Junior Minicamp

A five-star UNC basketball commit has been named a standout at the USA Basketball camp over the weekend.

The rise of Drake Powell continues.

The 2024 North Caorlina commit continues to improve, just a year after making his pledge to the program. Since that day in September of 2022, Powell has climbed the recruiting rankings, earning a fifth star and is a top 10 prospect.

And this weekend, Powell earned praise once again for his play at the USA Basketball Junior Minicamp.

Jamie Shaw of On3 wrote on his Day 3 standouts from the minicamp in Colorado Springs and included on that list is Powell, who is having a nice showing out there:

There is a hustle factor that really shines with Drake Powell. He is one of the best perimeter defenders in the camp, and that gear has been on high all three days. His ability to rebound from the wing position has stood out as well.

Powell has gotten his offense mostly in transition. He has made plays, either on defense or on the boards, and been able to push the breakto push pressure on the rim. While hhas been able to sprinkle in a couple elbow pull ups, he he has not scored very efficiently in the half court. Ther is no questioning the impact that Powell has on the game, he makes winning, impactful plays.

The rise of Powell has been impressive. He’s seemingly gotten better every month, from his junior year of high school through the AAU circuit and now in camps. He’s consistently improved and is UNC’s highest-ranked recruit in the 2024 class.
