Amid Texas A&M’s critical 2023 college football season, the Aggies 2023-2024 basketball season is one month away, as they’ll open up the season at home again the visiting Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday, Nov. 6.
The Aggies are coming off a 25-10 season (15-3 SEC) in which they appeared in the SEC title game for consecutive years and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018, falling to the then-surging Penn State Nittany Lions in the First Round.
Entering his fifth season at the helm, head coach Buzz Williams has continued to build the program from the ground up, recruiting high-character players whose toughness and maturity match their skill on the court while consistently utilizing the transfer portal since his arrival, landing current senior leaders such as guard Tyrece “Boots” Radford, and the senior forward duo, Henry Coleman III and Julius Marble.
However, the current face of the program remains junior do-it-all point guard Wade Taylor IV, who, after averaging 16.3 points per game last season, was named First-team All-SEC, as his superstar trajectory is poised to take another step in 2023.
Ahead of SEC Basketball Media Days on Oct. 18-19, Texas A&M is a unanimous Top 25 ranked team, according to multiple outlets. Regarding where they stack up in the SEC, one underrated college basketball prognosticator has the Aggies as the Top team in the SEC before their season opener.

While these rankings have already been shredded to pieces by nearly every fan base, Texas A&M, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky all belong in the Top 4. Until SEC play begins in January, we’re strictly going off of potential. For the Aggies, returning the deepest backcourts in the country certainly helps their cause for No.1, but after failing to make a run in the NCAA Tournament, “show don’t tell” will be the continuous mantra in 2023.
Texas A&M will host No.10 Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2:30 p.m. CT, inside Kyle Field (TV: CBS).
