Carolina Panthers right guard Austin Corbett is back, but he’s not all the way back.
On Wednesday, the team officially cleared the sixth-year offensive lineman to participate in practice. Corbett, who spent the first four weeks of the campaign on the reserve/physically unable to perform list due to his recovery from a torn ACL, now has a 21-day window to return to the active roster.
And according to Austin himself, he may be taking a good chunk of those 21 days to get himself into game shape.
“I’m in great shape from all the training and stuff we’re doin’ inside the bubble,” he told reporters at his locker before this afternoon’s session. “But . . . you start hittin’ somebody again, that’s gonna be like training camp just gettin’ the body [acclimated].
“So, we’ll figure it out. We got these next couple weeks, and we’ll figure it out after the bye and kinda see where we’re at from there.”
Before getting to that bye, the 0-4 Panthers are set to hit the road for two away matchups against the 3-1 Detroit Lions and the 3-1 Miami Dolphins. They, and perhaps Corbett as well, will return in Week 8 to host the Houston Texans.
