The Philadelphia 76ers got to work at Colorado State University on Tuesday to begin training camp for the 2023-24 season. The Sixers went to work without James Harden who still would like to be traded, but he is expected to attend camp perhaps as early as Wednesday.
Harden still has his eyes on the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the Clippers are not offering the Sixers anything worth moving an elite playmaker for. Despite being on the downside of his career, Harden still averaged 21 points and 10.7 assists in 2022-23.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on “NBA Today” that Harden is ready to make the Sixers uncomfortable in order to get his way:
He wants to make the 76ers uncomfortable. So uncomfortable, ultimately, they don’t think they’ll get the best out of him and that they’ll make a trade. The Sixers, on the other hand, they want to wait this out and hope they get the best James Harden, the best version of him sooner than later, but the Sixers’ stance has been all along, there’s not a deal out there right now that gets us back the kind of assets we need to improve this team.
The Sixers should remain patient. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey showed his patience during the Ben Simmons saga.
His patience allowed Philadelphia to grab Harden from the Brooklyn Nets. Now, Morey will seek to do the same in this situation to get the value he believes Harden is worth.
