FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The offseason is over for the Philadelphia 76ers, and it’s time to get to work preparing for the 2023-24 season.
The Sixers have a new coach, Nick Nurse, who looks to lead the team over the hump in the Eastern Conference and chase the title they so desperately crave. Philadelphia has been in the mix in recent seasons, but it hasn’t been able to get past the second round.
As the team returned to work on Tuesday for its first training camp practice from Colorado State University, Nurse gave his evaluation on how the first practice went.
“It was good,” Nurse beamed. “Pretty long, pretty lengthy. A lot of work, a lot of running, a lot of defense, conditioning, all those kinds of things, so I’m happy with it. I think guys, obviously, this time of year are super engaged and a lot of effort. A lot of the games were competitive. Even most of the drills had a competitive nature. Some type of time and score aspect to it and guys were getting after it so it was fun to see.”
This was the first practice with Nurse for everybody on the roster and the consensus seemed to be that it was a very intense first day.
“I would describe it as, one, he’s very intense,” Tyrese Maxey said. “When we get moving, we moving fast. There’s no real like breaks which is really good for us I feel like. Especially, out here in the altitude. So guys are getting in prime-time shape and it’s been pretty good. So we love them.”
The Sixers look to continue that growth throughout the week of camp and be ready for the challenges to come.
