NFL Week 5 power rankings: Rams jump into top 16 after win over Colts

The Rams jumped into the top half of this week’s power rankings after beating the Colts on Sunday afternoon

Before the season started, the Los Angeles Rams were in the bottom half of most power rankings, with some analysts putting them among the five worst teams in the league. A Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks thrust the Rams much higher in the power rankings, but then two straight losses dropped them almost out of the top 20.

Los Angeles bounced back with an overtime win against the Colts in Week 4, which has the team trending in the right direction again with the Eagles up next. In Touchdown Wire’s latest power rankings, the Rams come in at No. 16, clinging to a spot in the top half of the league at the quarter mark of the season.

If you watched The Penguins of Madagascar, you’ll know the lead penguin, Skipper’s catch phrase is “Just smile and wave, boys.” Now take that, but make it “Just keep throwing to Puka Nacua, boys.”

The Rams hope to get Cooper Kupp back this week, which will be a huge boost to the offense, even with Nacua playing so well in his place. It’ll give Matthew Stafford another weapon and allow him to spread the ball around even more, preventing defenses from keying on one guy.

There’s still a long way to go this season but at 2-2 through four games, the Rams are in better shape than most people expected them to be in at this point in the season.
