Brian Burns on Panthers’ struggles: You gotta man up

Panthers OLB Brian Burns on team’s struggles: At a certain point in time, you gotta man up—and that time has been well overdue

Brian Burns doesn’t know what winning football feels like in the NFL. Since being drafted in 2019, the Carolina Panthers have gone a miserable 22-47.

And clearly, he’s tired of it.

The two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher spoke with reporters at his locker following Carolina’s latest defeat, one that saw the Minnesota Vikings come into Bank of America Stadium on Sunday to claim a 21-13 triumph. Burns was asked about starting his fifth pro campaign on four straight losses.

“Honestly, you can’t get too down on yourself,” he said of the 0-4 start. “At a certain point in time, you gotta man up—and that time has been well overdue. So, I don’t have much to say. Like I said, I want actions to speak.”

Head coach Frank Reich expressed the same sentiment a few moments earlier. He said, during his postgame presser, that the team was hoping to be about it instead of talking about it in Week 4.

“We’re gonna go back to work,” he said. “We’re all gonna own it. We gotta get better. Kind of our theme this week a little bit was talk is talk, it’s time for action. So, that’s we what we gotta do. We gotta get back to work.

That work could very well result in losses No. 48 and 49 for Burns, as the Panthers will now hit the road for a pair of away matchups against the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
