The Dog Days of September? The NFL season is a grind and honestly things stretch far beyond the four months of actual games leading up to the playoffs. With teams spending six weeks of training camp, it’s around this time of the regular season, Week 4, when the wear and tear starts to set in. Coaches around the league, including the Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy, will often give their veterans a chance to take a day off during the week. This limits the amount of stressful practices and allows minor nicks and bruises to heal before the next game.
It’s about that time in Dallas as two veterans, WR CeeDee Lamb and DeMarcus Lawrence, were given the day off as the team returned to work on Wednesday. Preparation for the Week 4 contest against the New England Patriots is underway now, and the week’s initial injury report is out. There’s also the latest update on the four offensive linemen who did not fully participate but not just for rest purposes.
Tyler Biadasz and Zack Martin, who were both ruled out of last week’s game, were working rehab in today’s practice. There was no sign of Tyron Smith, though he was actually questionable and suited up against Arizona, but did not play.
Meanwhile on the Patriots’ sideline, cornerback Jonathan Jones continues to be limited as he looks to work back from an ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last two contests. Also on their list are two offensive and two defensive linemen.
