Despite only being four weeks into the season, every single sports media outlet in the country is trying to figure out where all 133 Division I FBS programs stand.
The Florida Gators have proved to be one of the toughest teams to accurately rank, thanks in large part to some Jekyll and Hyde performances over the last two weeks. An upset win over Tennessee has many believing in the boy in Orange and Blue, but a lackluster showing against UNC Charlotte on Saturday slowed down those soaring expectations.
Now, the Gators face another rival — Kentucky, who has taken three of the last five games in the series against UF after dropping 31 in a row.
Heading into that matchup, the CBS Sports 133 rankings have Florida at No. 23 and Kentucky at No. 24. That probably doesn’t help anyone looking to put money on the game, but the bottom line is that this will be one of the most competitive matchups of the season for both clubs.
Kentucky is riding a perfect 4-0 record, while Florida is 3-1 with a loss to No. 12 Utah on the books. Yes, No. 1 Georgia, No. 5 Florida State and No. 16 LSU loom on the schedule, but beating the Wildcats comes first for the Gators.
Although, it’s unlikely that Florida will make another seven-spot jump, a convincing victory could help move UF a bit.
As far as the rest of the SEC: Alabama comes in at No. 14, Missouri at No. 21 and Tennessee at No. 22.
