The Spurs bench unit should be poised for major improvements next year

After years of struggles, the San Antonio Spurs bench should be much-improved next season.

With the entrance of Victor Wembanyama into the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs landed a generational talent. The 19-year-old French superstar is poised to draw the attention of media, fans, and the entire basketball world on top of that. But in addition to Wembanyama, the Spurs should have a solid supporting cast.

Devin Vassell should be in for a big year, Tre Jones has a lot to prove on his new contract, Jeremy Sochan could have a breakout sophomore season, and so many other players are ready to take on new roles. Even San Antonio’s bench has a chance to take a big leap this year.

According to Jesus Gomez of Pounding the Rock, the Spurs bench should be much better this year.

“Whoever stays will probably be trade bait as next season’s trade deadline approaches, but at least for a while, Gregg Popovich should have a couple of guys to turn to when he needs shooting and leadership off the bench, which should make the Spurs’ second unit well-rounded outside of the main two or three usual subs. giving San Antonio plenty of options to match up with opponents,” Gomez wrote.

With Reggie Bullock, Doug McDermott, and Cedi Osman also chilling on San Antonio’s bench, not only do the Spurs have a nice young core, but they have a solid group of veterans ready to help lead them.

By making some sneakily impressive trades this summer, the Spurs rounded out their bench unit. Now they have a group ready to rumble next year.
