The New York Jets are coming off yet another offensive dud in their 15-10 Week 3 loss to the New England Patriots. The team totaled 171 yards of offense and quarterback Zach Wilson threw for just 157 yards on 18/36 passing. Despite all that, the Jets are sticking with Wilson under center.
Following the game, head coach Robert Saleh told the media the team is still going to roll with Wilson as quarterback.
“He’s who gives us the best chance to win,” Saleh said. He also added he doesn’t believe the locker room will turn on Wilson like what happened last season. “We’ve got a great locker room.”
It’s not like the Jets currently have many other in-house options that “give them the best chance to win.” The only other quarterback on the roster is Tim Boyle. The Jets may have also lost a potential veteran trade option. Jameis Winston had to step in for Derek Carr for the New Orleans Saints during their 18-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Depending on the severity of Carr’s injury, Winston may end up back as the starter for the Saints, taking away that potential route for the Jets.
The Jets continue to do and say the right things about the Jets. But time is now ticking. The defense has to be getting frustrated that they do all this work seemingly for naught because the offense can never get anything going.
For now, however, it’s still Zach Wilson’s show. But with the Chiefs coming to town next week, the Jets could be staring at 1-3 and moving closer and closer to hitting the panic button.
